Movie studios produce change with society

Kaylee Davis
Writer
Small parts of society are

bound to change with the ev-
ery changing world that we

live in, including forms of
media production.

Whether it is through writ-
ten works, short films or even

large scale productions, most
forms of media typically aim

for two major goals: to enter-
tain and to send a message.

However, some people

find that many modern mov-
ies skip out on some of the

necessary details that make a
film unique, and instead mass
produce generic plots and
overused tropes.

Sophomore Caleb Slaugh-
ter has seen these details and

finds that some media pro-
ducers come up with ways to

overcome this.

“Originality and memora-
bility make the best movies,”

Slaughter said. “It is hard to be unique in a world of media

where everything has been done, but some writers and direc-
tors do it.”

With all of the interest in cinema held at Marlow, MHS of-
fers a Media Productions and Communication class.

This class allows students to both study and make films of
their own based off of different genres of movies.
Students are instructed to write, produce, edit and critique
a film within a set deadline before they publish it to the class’
YouTube channel.
Second year Media Productions member Conner Murrah

finds that new technology has
allowed the way movies are
presented to change.

“Older movies have a cer-
tain sound to them that sticks

out, but newer movies have a
certain look to them,” Murrah
said. “When I make films, I
try to include more creativity
by sitting down and thinking
beforehand.”

Some of Murrah’s favor-
ite productions have been his

Film-Noir and Thriller proj-
ects.

Though his Film-Noir
project has yet to be released,
his Thriller has been out since
early 2022.
“I made “D.I.D.” unique
by using only myself in the

film and nobody else,” Mur-
rah said. “I played multiple

different characters while us-
ing only one actor since the

character had multiple person-
alities.

These short films are only a few of many produced world-
wide and by Marlow.

The positive and negative changes media goes through will
only continue developing.
