Dashing into the 2024 sea-
son, the Outlaw and Lady

Outlaw track teams com-
peted in their first meet of

the season on Thursday,
March 14 at Velma-Alma
and their second meet on
Friday, March 29 at Madill.
Junior Mikey Weston is
one athlete who performed
well at these early season
meets, coming out with
low times in all three of his
events.
“I have run my best times
in everything at every meet
so far,” Weston said.

To reach this point, how-
ever, Weston put in extra

practice time.
“I started running on my
own back in December,”
Weston said.
Alongside the boys strong
start, the girls also have

put in the work for a suc-
cessful season.

Senior Bristin Smith is a
third year pole vaulter who

has gone above and be-
yond to continue improv-
ing her personal record

throughout her senior sea-
son.

“This year I plan to work
hard and practice a lot,”
Bristin said. “I do my best
when I am in the right
mindset, so I plan to stay
focused.”
With the big goals students
hold for the year, Marlow’s

track coaches have ambi-
tious plans.

Coaches Tammy Miller and
Matt Ivory plan to work
towards getting as many
students qualified for state
as possible.
“I want to practice hard
and keep having the girls
compete against more
challenging competition,”

Miller said. “We have a lot
of new members this year,

but they are strong run-
ners.”

Track welcomes a wide
range of events, these
ranging anywhere from the
more speed based events
to strength based events.
Two of these strength
based events are shot put
and discus, both of which

junior Trace Ribble partici-
pates in.

Ribble has spent the first
couple of meets getting
into the flow of the season
and setting himself up for
future success.

“I have been steadily im-
proving in practice and

working on my spin,” Rib-
ble said. “Through diligent

practice and a lot of hard
work, I can achieve this. I

just need to work on coor-
dination.”

With big goals and all of
the motivation to reach
them, Outlaw track and
field is set for a season of
success.
The next track meet for the
Outlaws and Lady Outlaws
will occur on Friday, April 5
at Plainsview.
