Giving competition the
boot, MHS Bootleggers and
Cheerleaders participated in
the annual Regional Cheer
game day on Saturday, Nov.
4,
The cheer team traveled to
Jay High School to compete
and the Bootleggers competed at Crossing Christians
High School.
Senior cheer team member
Emma Samples attended the
event as her last game day.
“My favorite part of game
day competition is the feeling
of excitement and adrenaline
that you can feel rush through
the whole team the second we
go out on the mat,” Samples
said. “It is so fulfilling to
know that we all worked hard
to get there and we are all
there as a team with the same
goals. “
Out of these teams, the
Bootleggers received ninth
out of 21, qualifying for state,
and the Cheerleaders received
34 out of 39.
Four year Bootlegger and
senior Bristin Smith attended
the competition and was impressed with the Bootleggers
performance at the competition.
“I feel like the Bootlegger
did pretty good,” Smith started. “I feel like we went out,
had fun and showed everyone
what we are.”
The cheer and Bootlegger
teams were judged based on
material, execution of dances
and cheers, energy, technique
and the overall impression
given.
This point system is graded
on a scale of fifty points and
out of these points, Lady Outlaw cheer received 422 points
and the Bootlegger’s received
381.
With their impressive performance, the two teams have
gone through a lot of improvement, one student that
believes the cheer team has
changed being sophomore
Hayden Pereria.
“The cheer team honestly
has just gotten much stronger, especially today,” Pereria
expressed. “We really have
become a better team with
practice and just being around
each other.”
Though only the Bootleggers will be attending State
Game Day, the cheer team
will continue to perform at
football games and will soon
begin performing at games
for the winter season as the
year continues.
