Knox tackles senior year

Senior Lawson Knox has
been a member of the Marlow
High School wrestling team

since his freshman year, grow-
ing up with the sport after his

start in elementary school.
During the 2022-23 season,
Knox competed as the 138
weight class for the varsity
team.
Knox believes that his skills
will help him and his team
achieve success as they have in
the past.

“Winning as a team in du-
als is my favorite part of

wrestling,” Knox stated. “My
strengths as a wrestler are
scrambling and defense.”
Through his successes in
wrestling, Knox has become a

leader for the team, which fel-
low senior Cade Gilbert has

noticed, especially Knox’s pos-
itive attitude.

“The best quality that Law-
son brings to our team is that he

is always in a good mood,” Gil-
bert expressed. “You will never

see Knox not laughing or mak-
ing a joke. He is also a very

good leader and uplifting.”
Alongside being a leader
and positive presence on the
wrestling team, Knox has also
put countless hours into the
sport.

“Lawson has improved tre-
mendously since I met him. He

never takes days off and works
hard in practice,” Gilbert said.
Knox’s efforts have been

duly noted, having been award-
ed State Runner-up his junior

year, and also earning the Out-
standing Wrestler award, as

well as a variety of placements
and awards earned in other
tournaments.
His desire to work hard and
succeed is what makes Knox
stand out according to MHS
assistant wrestling coach Keith
Kizarr.
Kizarr has coached Knox
since he started wrestling and
has seen Knox’s hard work pay
off.
“Lawson has grown into
one of the best wrestlers in the
state,” Kizarr stated. “He is a
leader in the classroom and in
the wrestling room.”

Knox will continue his edu-
cational path at the University

of Oklahoma where he will

pursue a Master’s degree in Pe-
troleum Engineering.
