Minyard “lays out” her senior year

Senior Sage Minyard has been a part of the Marlow Journalism staff for three years, taking up the role of Head Layout Editor this year.

Minyard has done very well as Layout Editor, winning several awards through the previously published and on-deadline state competition provided to students by 

Oklahoma Scholastic Media.

Some of these awards she received included State Champion On Deadline Sports Photo, 2022, Division Three Champion Sports Photography, 2022, State Champion On Deadline Front Page Design, 2023, State Champion On Deadline Sports Photo, 2023.

“I love Journalism because it gives me the opportunity to be creative, and I have the freedom to try new things when I do layout for the newspaper,” declared Minyard. “It has given me good leadership experience that will help me in the future and has also allowed me to participate in state contests.”

Minyard’s work ethic and leadership roles she has gained from journalism have also impacted her close friends.

One person that has really benefited from Minyard’s wonderful personality and kindness is senior Maya Cantwell.

“I first met Sage in Kindergarten and we have been close friends ever since,” expressed Cantwell. “Sage was the friend I was looking for when I needed someone caring and encouraging in my life, showing kindness every time.”

Another person that has been impacted by Minyard is her long time friend Daylee Russell.

“I have known Sage for 12 years now, first meeting in the first grade,” stated Russell. “Sage has had one of the biggest impacts on my life because she is so encouraging and kind.”

Minyard has done very well in journalism and has applied all the various lessons that she has learned from the program to benefit others.

Minyard will continue to work hard and show Outlaw Pride in everything she does and participates with in her future.

After high school, Minyard plans to attend Cameron University, where she will major in Elementary Education and minor in Special Education.
