Senior Ean Hewitt has been a member of the MHS track team for three years, beginning the sport his freshman year of high school.

Hewitt currently runs the 4 x 800, 1600 and 4 x 400, and during his time on the team, he has won All State Honors, been awarded Academic State Champions and been a member of the team for its 2022 State Championship.

“I originally started track to experience something new,” Hewitt said. “My favorite part is going to meets and being able to compete alongside my friends.”

Hewitt uses his time on the team to both improve in athletics and as a teammate, impacting fellow track member and senior Caleb Sloan.

“Ean is a good teammate that has always been there for anybody who needs him,” Sloan expressed. “He is a funny person that is always trying to make everyone laugh, and he has required us to work harder.”

Hewitt’s abilities in leadership and overall friendliness have impacted both the individuals on the team and the team itself, Senior Tyler Brown seeing him grow throughout his time on the team.

“Ean has put in work every day which has positively affected the team and made us want to try harder with his encouragement and constant good attitude,” Brown said. “He always has a positive attitude that motivates others to be kind.”

Hewitt has impacted both his teammates and coaches, with track coach Matt Ivory having coached him for four years.

“When he first came to practice, it was obvious that he had talent, and one the past four years, he has continued to work very hard in practice,” Ivory stated. “He never complains and leads by example, and I have no doubt that he will be successful in whatever he decides to do with his work ethic, talent and persistence.”

After graduation, Hewitt plans to move on to attend the University of Oklahoma where he will pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
