Sloan runs through senior year

Caleb Sloan ran through his first semester of senior year and has strided right into the second.

Sloan has always had a spark for running, so when he reached middle school, it was a no-brainer for him to carry on his passion into the sport of cross-country,

“I liked to run a lot, so in the seventh grade, I joined the cross-country team,” stated Sloan.

While in Marlow’s very successful cross-country program, Sloan has learned some very important life lessons and will continue to carry them on in his life.

“Being in cross-country and running over time has made me not as childish as I was before,” expressed Sloan.

Sloan has not only become a better person through the good times but also through the tougher times that come with being an athlete in any sport.

“During my junior year I got in trouble for something, and it truly changed me for the better,” Sloan said.

Coach Matt Ivory has been a front row spectator to Sloan’s growth through the sport.

“Caleb’s growth over the last six years has been remarkable,” stated Ivory. “He has always been very intelligent and has now been able to focus that intelligence in very productive ways.”

One of Sloan’s fellow seniors, teammate and friend Tyler Brown met Sloan about ten years ago and has been a good companion ever since.

“Caleb is always great to talk to because no matter what, he will get your mind off any of the struggles or problems,” stated Brown.

According to his friend, Sloan is also a hard worker in all aspects of his life.

“He always comes in ready to work no matter what activity it is, and he is super determined in everything he does,” said Brown.

Sloan is a great teammate who keeps the spirit up and encourages his fellow teammates to work hard whether in practice or a cross-country meet.

“He contributed to the team in multiple ways including team chemistry and performance,” said Ivory.

Sloan leaves behind one simple piece of advice for any of his underclassmen.

“I would encourage younger kids to just follow their dreams,” stated Sloan.

Caleb Sloan will take his determination and lessons with him after graduation, as he has signed up to join the United States Marines to serve his country.
