The many mysterious layers of the “Glass Onion”

Two years after Detective Beniot Blanc, portrayed by Daniel Craig, solved the crimes in the 2019 film “Knives Out” he is back to solve a new mystery in “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”

After only being in theaters for a five day period in late November and racking in just over $13.1 million, the enthusiastic side-sequel was streamed exclusively to Netflix on Dec. 23, 2022.

The spin-off starts out with multi-millionaire Miles Bron, portrayed by Edward Norton, sending out puzzle boxes to five of his dearest, “disruptor” friends: Birdie, portrayed by Kate Hudson; Lionel, portrayed by Leslie Odom Jr.; Duke along with his girlfriend Whiskey, who are portrayed by Dave Bautista and Madelyn Cline. To open the boxes the friends video-chatted each other and worked together to crack the code. Once the series of puzzles were solved, in the center of the boxes beheld invitations to Bron’s private island in the Mediterranean.

Along with the five friends, two other people received invitations- Miles’ ex-business partner Andi Brand, portrayed by Janelle Monáe and Detective Blanc.

After the invitees make their way to Greece, before boarding Bron’s yacht to make their way to the island, the sequences of mysteries instantly start to unfold.

The first mystery being Detective Blanc and Brand.

Causing many people to ask: What were they doing there?

Once the group is placed on the island, Bron is supposedly going to be hosting a murder-mystery game in his newly built mansion which he refers to as the Glass Onion.

Bron cleverly named his mansion after the spot where he and the disruptors hung out in their youth.

Things in the mansion, however, did not turn out to be what they seemed as many of the movie’s characters were solving mysteries not in connection with the game including actual deaths.

They all had their own questions as to why detective Blanc and Andi were there, but not all of them would get the answers they were looking for: What were they doing there, and how was it all connected?

After a series of twists and turns, Blanc would help solve most of the mysteries and give Andi the answers which she has been looking for throughout the film.

Like the earlier Knives Out film, “Glass Onion” is a clever and well put together movie.

Similar to any sequel, the film was bound to be set to high expectations with many agreeing that the newer movie is more bright and extroverted than the first, effectively living up to the original movie’s standards.

Glass Onion will surely keep viewers on their toes throughout the entire film and keep them wondering along with the characters.
