FFA hosts annual labor auction

Marlow High School FFA hosted their annual labor auction on Thursday, Dec. 1.

The event was held at the First Baptist Life Center and those in attendance were served calf fries and chicken tenders that were prepared by members of FFA and their parents.

The labor auction is an auction where businesses and people can bid on young adults to do some work for them.

Whoever has the highest bid gets to have 8 full hours of labor done by that kid.

The host of the auction is MHS Ag teacher Quaid Kennan.

“The labor auction is a fundraiser for us that buys our way to competitions and some other things we do throughout the year,” said Kennan.

The labor auction does bring it quite a lot of money from all the bidders.

“The most anyone has bid during my time at MHS was 1,000 dollars for a kid, which was really helpful,” said Kennan.

This year the auction generated about $17,000 for the program.

Senior Ruby Crow is an FFA officer who has participated in the labor auction the past few years.

“Last year was my first time being an officer, so I just did the same thing I am doing this year, helping keep students organized and attendees fed. In previous years I was actually being sold for labor, so it’s pretty fun,” said Crow

Not only do students get the opportunity to work but they also learn a bit, too.

“Being up there lets the young men and women work on being in crowds and being around new people, it really helps them,” said Crow.

The labor auction is just one of the many events that FFA participates in every year.

From the auction to even animal shows, FFA keeps a busy schedule throughout the school year.
