Leading into their 2022 competition season, the MHS Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) team attended their district, Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) competition on Monday, Nov. 16.

The team took a total of eight competitors to the event, seven students placing.

Five placings were first place: students in events level three Cake Decorating, level two Children’s Literature, level two Creed Speaking and Interpretation, level two New Member Facts, and a level three team of Repurpose and Redesign placing.

Freshman Lilly Morningstar placed first in New Member Facts and will be taking the event to the regional competition on Feb. 3.

“I just joined FCCLA this year because it seems like an incredible new experience that will help me prepare for my future,” Morningstar said. “I think I performed extremely well since I got first place In districts.”

Morningstar’s work in her event was aided by Marlow’s FCCLA advisor, Tamra May.

May has taken her students to STAR events since taking over the position, bringing success to the FCCLA program.

“I was very proud of the competitors that went,” May expressed. “They worked hard on their events and it showed.”

May did not lead FCCLA to success on her own, FCCLA’s chapter officers also helped to achieve this year’s goals.

One of these officers is senior and FCCLA President Marissa Krautbauer who has been a member of FCCLA since her freshman year.

“The first contest of the year is always the most nerve racking,” Krautbauer said. “I know that we will improve on our presentation and be able to find out what works best for us and give us the best chance to move on to the next level.”

The Marlow FCCLA team will continue working toward their goals as their competition season continues.

Their next event will be the regional STAR competition, taking place on Feb. 3, 2022 at Chickasha.
