On Thursday, May 12 the Marlow High School baseball team participated in its first game of the OSSAA State tournament in Shawnee.

The Outlaws first batted against the Lincoln Christian varsity team.

After continuous efforts to load the bases, the Marlow team finally struck out, leading the game into the bottom of the first inning.

Lincoln Christian made a small amount of progress while on the offense after scoring one point going into the second inning due to a lead-off walk and a stand-up double being played by the opposing team.

Sophomore Mason Holding was the first player to kickstart the success of the Outlaws after scoring one point in the top of the second inning by hitting a triple, leading him to run home on a field error.

During the bottom of the second inning, the Lincoln Christian team’s score soared after a player hit a home run allowing three players to make it to home base.

The Outlaws soon bounced back in the top of third inning when junior Avrey Payne scored a triple, giving time for senior Will Bergner and junior Cooper Smith to score two points for Marlow making the team trail only one point behind its opponent.

Lincoln Christian did not see the same success they did in the second inning after scoring one point by using a rigorous and inefficient plan in the third.

The third inning was only the beginning of Lincoln Christian’s downfall.

In the top of the fourth inning, senior Tyler Callahan scored off a bunt from fellow senior Kole Seeley. With Seeley and Bergner occupying first and second base, senior Brennan Morgan was up to bat.

After hitting a bomb to left field, Morgan helped his team snatch back the lead by two points.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lincoln Christian caught up to Marlow but did not know the tricks up the Outlaws’ sleeves.

Marlow scored another three points drawing up the score 10-7.

If a three point lead was not enough, the lead the Outlaws had on the Lincoln Christian team rose by another four points while Marlow’s competitor was unable to score the rest of the game.

The final score at the end of the game was 14-7 in favor of the Outlaws.

After struggling the next day to find a field that had not been rained out, the Marlow Outlaws played their second State game against the Blanchard Lions.

The Outlaws batted first, but both teams were unsuccessful in their attempts to score during the first inning.

The teams stayed at a tied score up until the top of the fourth inning.

Sophomore Cade Gilbert hit a single allowing one of his teammates to land home.

The Outlaws kept their lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Blanchard was able to score three points pushing the Lions two points ahead of the Outlaws.

Throughout the rest of the game, Marlow did not get another chance to score more points.

The Blanchard Lions Scored another two points making the final score 5-1 in favor of the Lions.

Marlow athletics has seen a successful year in all areas including baseball.

The team has grown together as teammates and as friends.

The MHS baseball team will bounce back next season with hopes to win a State Championship.
