Was steak the Wright choice?

steakhouse-pic-nathanHeading to a restaurant that has been open since the 1960s, I had no clue what to expect. I decided to go to the rustic joint known as Wright’s Steakhouse located at 905 E. Bois D Arc Ave. in Duncan because I have not been hearing much about them lately. The drive is a good distance from Marlow, and upon arrival there is not much to look at from the outside. However, the inside is nice with linen cloths for napkins, televisions on the walls, and a nice view of the salad/hot bar with a vast number of items to enjoy.

A server is at the door to seat customers and provide them with a menu. The menu has a wide variety of meals to choose from. Most of the meals, if not all, come with a trip to the salad/hot bar and dessert, along with a choice of a baked potato, French fries, steam vegetables or a baked apple. The waitress was attentive and quick to refill drinks.

After ordering a six ounce sirloin done medium with a baked apple, I went to the salad/hot bar and there was such a variety to choose from that I could almost not decide. I chose to enjoy in a small portion salad, green beans, pea salad, okra, and beans. The beans and green beans were average. The pea salad was cold, creamy, and very fresh, and that is surprising because I am not a big fan of peas. The salad was very fresh; the lettuce was crisp, the cheese was fantastic, and the dressing was noticeably homemade. However, the okra was not very appetizing; it had an odd texture and was cold.

Then, my entree arrived with some hot rolls and honey butter. The rolls were very light and airy, and they were delicious. I preferred mine without the butter. The apple was average but lacked a little flavor. The steak had a nice char grill on it and looked great. I took a bite of mine, and the experience of eating it was strange. I chewed into it, and it was juicy at first but very dry after a couple of bites. After I let it sit in its juice for a while, the steak tasted pretty good. It was well seasoned, and I enjoyed the rest of it. After I ate my entree, I was asked if I wanted my free dessert, and I of course said yes. I was given the option of peach cobbler and ice cream or just ice cream; I chose the peach cobbler and ice cream.

When the dessert arrived, it was hot, and it looked amazing. It tasted just as good as it looked. The ice cream was dripping on top of the cinnamon garnished peach cobbler; I almost said forget the spoon and put my face into it. I used my manners and ate the peach cobbler, and I have to say, this is the star of the show. I could order a bucket of this, and I would be happy. The ice cream was nice and cold and not too sweet, the crust was the perfect texture and the peaches were tremendously juicy. It has a bad location, average food and great dessert. I will definitely consider returning to Wright’s Steakhouse. On a scale of one to five, one being the worst and five being the best, I would rate Wright’s Steakhouse in Duncan to be a three and a half star experience.
