00000006Though it is April, Friday night lights still remain senior Kagan Blackburn’s inspiration.

Blackburn has played football for nine years and says that his last year was his best.

“Everything went smooth this year,” Blackburn said. “The team, as a whole, did amazing!”

Though the adrenaline he receives when he runs onto the field may get him driven for success, Blackburn says that his favorite part of the sport is the chemistry and the friendship that he shares with his team.

Even though he puts on a front when he is on the field, Blackburn showed his compassionate side during his interview.

“The hardest part of the sport isn’t training. It is picking everyone up after a loss,” Blackburn said.

Blackburn, along with numerous other football team members, was a part of a leadership council. They met once a week to discuss problems with the team.

“Not only was he a leader on the field, but he did everything he could to be there for his team off the field too,” sophomore Brayden O’Dell said.

He said that his favorite game this season would be the game against Kingfisher.

“Though we didn’t win, we played well! We kept up with the top ranking team in the state,” Blackburn said.

After high school, Blackburn plans to attend University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and major in criminal justice.

Blackburn is also a four-year participant of FFA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Kagan is the son of Robert Blackburn and Tracy Slate.
