Although bowling is not a school sponsored sport, many Marlow students have gained interest in a league sponsored by Freedom Lanes in Duncan, which has become popular with students from throughout Stephens County.

For one Marlow freshman, it provides the opportunity for her to participate in something she has enjoyed for years.

Rabecca Smith has been bowling for 10 years and has received numerous awards and trophies.

“I bowl because it’s fun,” said Smith. “I also enjoy getting to meet new people at tournaments.”

Smith has never taken lessons, but she does have a coach to help her on her technique.

Currently, Smith bowls an average of 122, but often scores higher and has previously received the Over 200 Award.

Through the thrills of strikes and spares, bowling never fails to get everything off of Smith’s mind.

“Bowling relaxes me. For a moment, you have to slow down and take deep breaths,” Smith said.

Senior Anne Wortham said that she was amazed by Rebecca’s performance at the first practice.

“At first I wasn’t even sure if she could get the ball down there, but the little girl proved me wrong. She is really good,” Wortham said.

Sarah Clifton of Freedom Lanes helps coach the Marlow team.

“Becca has been bowling for ten years, and with me for four. In the time that I have been coaching her, she’s had a great attitude and is one of our rising youth bowlers,” Clifton said.
