Self-taught dancer excels

Hunter Scalf is a four-year member of the Bootlegger dance team and is currently the senior captain of the squad. Scalf has never had formal dance training but has taken steps to improve her technique in time for the state dance competition on Saturday, December 14.

Dance coach Lisa Branum said that Hunter’s lack of training has not held her back from learning new skills.

“Hunter has choreographed almost every dance the Bootleggers have performed this year. She set a goal to learn dance and leap combinations that only trained dancers tend to perform,” Branum said.

Scalf will perform these skills in two separate “highlight” sections of the state dance routine. Branum said that she spends countless hours in the studio working on dance.

“Hunter shows dedication and a passion for this team and its success that exemplifies what a captain should be,” Branum said.

Scalf and her fellow dance team members are set to compete at 5:08 p.m. in the multi-purpose gym at Oklahoma City University.

Coast is asset to Outlaws

DSC_0567Wesley Coast is a four-year letterman on the Outlaw basketball team and a very valuable player, according to Coach Kirk Harris. Harris says that Wesley has played an integral part in the resurgence of the boys basketball program.

“Wes is a very good offensive player. He has a unique ability to score in many different ways,” Harris said.

His ability to put points on the board is an asset to the team. Coast not only plays well offensively, but is prominent on the defensive side as well.

“He is very tough minded and does not get enough credit for the job he does on the defensive end of the floor,” Harris said.

Sophomore paces Lady Outlaws

DSC_0561Corrie Moore is a sophomore on the Lady Outlaw basketball team. The team is coached by Larry Mowry, who says that Corrie really stepped up in the girls first game of the season against Comanche.

“She was a perfect six for six from the free throw line. She played a key role for the team with her defensive hustle as well,” Mowry said.

Moore plays guard for the Lady Outlaws and scored a game high of 19 points against Comanche.

“I am very proud of her and the rest of the Lady Outlaws for the hard work they have put in,” Mowry said.
