Lights, camera, action! Senior Sam Kimbrough wears many hats on and off stage.

Kimbrough divides his time between drama and his academic pursuits.

“Sam is just a tremendous leader. He is always organized, calm, and kind to others, and his sense of humor just makes him a joy to be around,” said drama instructor, Paula McConnell.

Kimbrough credits the speech program with helping to pull him out of his shell.

“I came upon acting completely by accident. I just took Drama I as a fine arts credit, and I actually ended up liking it,” Kimbrough said.

Sam has been a member of his high school speech team for four years and has been cast in the advance drama annual play for three years.

Although he is known for his dry sense of humor, Kimbrough says he prefers dramatic acting over comedy.

“Last year’s production “Fools” was my favorite play. Even though I usually prefer dramatic pieces, I had fun getting to perform the role as Dr. Zurbritsky.”

“He’s really dynamic. As well as being funny, he is also outstanding when it comes to dramatic pieces,” fellow speech team member, Gerald McCullers said.

Kimbrough, along with 2013 graduate Ty Custer, received state runner-up with their dramatic duet last year.

Kimbrough’s acting is not the only thing that makes him unique, as he is also a member of the bowling team that was a regional qualifier this past school year.

“When I tried bowling for the first time in about 10 years, I was lucky if I scored in the 30’s. By the end of the season, I had an average score of 120,” Kimbrough said.

Kimbrough is one of a group of students who compete in a bowling league in Duncan.

“Sam really has come a long way and is a vital part of our team. He’s a great teammate and I look forward to bowling with him this next year,” junior Cole Eveland said.

In his free time, Kimbrough also enjoys playing the guitar. He said he taught himself by watching videos on the internet.

“I had always wanted to play guitar, and we had one just sitting at my house, so I decided it would be fun to learn.”

Sam is the son of Mike and Lisa Kimbrough.
