Many students focus on only in one area of their school lives. Gerald McCullers, this week’s Student of the Week, is not like most students. Gerald not only performs well on the football field, but also on stage and in the classroom.

Gerald has been a part of Outlaw football from a young age. His first taste of the game was in the third grade.

“I grew up watching football on TV and all I could think was ‘I want to do that,’” McCullers said.

McCullers continued to be a starter throughout middle school. In his sophomore year, he became a starter for the high school’s varsity team.

“Gerald is one of the smartest guys on our team. He understands our blocking schemes better than anyone else,” head coach Rob Renshaw said. “He is invested and never misses a workout.”

While it may not look like it at first glance, he is also an actor. Gerald is a two-year member of the Marlow Outlaw Speech Team.

“Gerald is such an amazing speaker. It really surprises people that this burly lineman is so comfortable in front of people,” speech coach Paula McConnell said.

Gerald has seen success in the program. He qualified for state this past year in three events.

“I was really nervous going into state, but I had a lot of fun in the end,” McCullers said.

McCullers also makes sure to spend time outside of sports and speech to ensure that he keeps his grades up.

McCullers has maintained a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society

Gerald plans on attending Oklahoma State University where he will major in aeronautical engineering. Gerald is the son of Bonnie Cole.
