Senior Magdalena Wheeler has been a member of Marlow’s band program for seven years, taking over as the head of the drumline for her senior year.
Throughout her time in the program, Wheeler has grown to be a valuable leader, growing to match the mood of other band students.
“Band has taught me that being a leader is keeping people in line even when you don’t want to,” Wheeler said. “Band has changed me for the better and made me more social.”
Wheeler’s leadership qualities have allowed her to impact fellow band members, earning her the “Band Mom Award.”
Junior Katelyn Cullum is one student who has found inspiration from Wheeler, the two being three year friends.
“In my life, Maggie plays the role of being one of my best friends. When I need someone, she’s always there for me,” Cullum said. “She’s a great listener, and she always knows what to say.”
Alongside the effects she has on other band member, Wheeler’s character has helped her fellow classmates.
Senior Oliver McInvale has known Wheeler for three years and has become close friends with her through the classes they share.
“Maggie is one of my closest friends and is always there when I need a shoulder to lean on,” McInvale said. “Sometimes I am not sure what I would do without her.”
Wheeler has grown in leadership skills and will continue to grow those skills as she heads further into her life and meets even more people.
Wheeler plans to attend the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, where she will major in education.
