The benefits of winter break

With Christmas break
coming to an end, students at
Marlow High School have re-
turned with new ambitions for
the school year.
These motivations can
range from wanting better
grades in school to showing
more kindness to other class-
mates.
Junior Micheal Weston is
one of those students who is
constantly looking for the op-
portunity to improve himself
and others.
“I want to become more
disciplined and replace bad
habits like procrastination to
improve myself for the new
year,” said Weston. “I always
want to be a better person,
and a new year feels like the
perfect time to start becoming
one.”
New goals and resolutions
will become more apparent
because of Christmas break,
but it also provides other im-
portant benefits, including
rest
Breaks, particularly those
separating semesters, gives
students and teachers an op-
portunity to rest from all their
schoolwork and extracurricu-
lar activities.
Tammy Miller is the com-
puter applications teacher at
Marlow High School and has
made new goals to benefit her
students.
“I feel it is important for
both teachers and students to
have a break because it gives
us time to regroup and get
ready for the next semester,”
said Miller. “With this new
year I’m going to try a differ-
ent way of teaching one of my
classes and try new activities
in the future.”
Similarly, sophomore
Chelsea Milligan also appre-
ciates the break from school
and believes it has positive
benefits for school perfor-
mance and overall mental
health.
“Winter break is very im-
portant for students to have a
cool down from school and
to spend time with family for
Christmas and New Years,”
stated Milligan.
According to the New
York Times, Christmas break
is very important because of
the break it provides and will
continue to allow students
and teachers to come back
well rested while being more
motivated.
