The Marlow Outlaws swinging through the competition
With the first day of spring finally arriving, so did the beginning of golf season for the Marlow Outlaws.
The Marlow High School girls started their season by hosting a twelve team tournament on Monday, Mar. 20 at Generations Golf Course in Marlow.
The girls did very well at the tournament placing 1st overall, after competing in a playoff hole against Pauls Valley.
The girls’ have worked hard leading up to the season, including creating teamwork.
One person that has helped the girls golf program reach and achieve new heights is Mikey Eaves.
Eaves has been coaching girls golf since 2009 at Marlow, helping to impact the players and help them mature into fine adults.
“My goal for this new season would be for the girls to compete confidently and use what they learned in practice,” expressed Eaves. “I think the mindset for this year should be to come together and compete for your teammates knowing that every stroke matters for the team.”
The Marlow girls golf team have benefited from the guidance of their coach allowing them to become better as a team and individuals.
One player for the girls golf team that has benefited from the lessons she has learned from competing in the sport is junior Caressa Woods.
“I first started playing golf because of my friends being involved and wanting to try something new. It motivated me to become better in the sport,” stated Woods. “One of my main focuses while playing golf would be to just have fun and not to be worried about anything allowing me to play very well.”
Not only have the Marlow girls golf team grown together and become better but so has the Marlow Boys Golf Team.
The boys kicked off their season by attending the Lake Murray course in Ardmore, OK on Wednesday, Mar. 22.
While the boys did not earn a place in the tournament, they still did very well learning to play as a team and supporting one another.
One of the players that did very well at the tournament was senior Avrey Payne.
“This is my first year playing golf for school after falling in love with the sport during the summer,” expressed Payne. “My goal for myself and the team would be to play relaxed and to just have fun because at the end of the day, it is a sport meant to be entertaining.”
Another individual that has helped the boys to grow into responsible young men and learn leadership roles is James Brown.
Brown has been coaching golf at Marlow High School for 5 years, helping the many players to become better individuals in their daily lives as well as players.
“My goal for the boys this year is to be confident in themselves and for us to be able to shoot consistently in the 80s,” stated Brown. “We have a very talented group this year, and the players will be able to push each other to do very well.”
The Marlow Outlaws have been very successful over the years in golf and this year will be no different. The teams will continue to work hard to become better every day.
