Erin Doughty is swinging her way through her senior year.
Doughty’s spark for the sport of softball did not come about until she was in the seventh grade.
“I was at Central High when I started playing softball, but I was a big basketball player,” stated Doughty. “My basketball coach was also the softball coach, and I wanted him to like me. So, I picked up on playing softball.”
Doughty began attending Marlow High School her sophomore year.
Having to start over at a new school, Doughty met her fellow classmate Whitney Wade just before she started her first day at MHS.
“When she first moved to Marlow, she was new, she had no idea who anyone was and she was having to make a name for herself here,” said Wade. “I have seen her over the years grow in confidence and her leadership style.”
Not only has Doughty shown leadership, but she exhibits motivation towards both her friends and teammates, according to Wade and fellow senior Kendall Kizarr.
“Erin inspires me in many ways, mainly just to be a better person,” said Wade. “She calls me out when I need to do better, not just on the field, but in all aspects of my life.”
Kizarr also expressed how great of a teammate Doughty is on and off the field.
“She is super independent and very well driven,” expressed Kizarr. “She works to get what she wants and that is what I love about Erin.”
According to Doughty, some of the best life lessons she has learned have come from playing softball.
“You face a lot of trials. Softball is a game of failure. You will fail time after time, but you just have to get back up and keep going.”
Doughty will continue to take her leadership skills from softball onto the next level.
Doughty plans to attend Rose State College this fall to continue her softball career alongside majoring in Sports Media.
