Wade leads with positivity

Senior Whitney Wade has been a member of the Marlow High School Student Council (StuCo) since the ninth grade.

As a StuCo member Wade volunteers at the food bank for the Marlow Samaritans, participates in Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) and goes to district/state conventions.

They have a main service project titled MOROTO week, where an organization is picked to donate money.

The week is full of fun games and competitions for students to partake in to help raise money. StuCo advisor and sophomore English teacher Ann Field has known Wade for the past four years and has seen her improve as a person throughout the years.

“I have seen Whitney grow into a confident leader,” Field said. “I know she will always give me an honest answer.”

Being in StuCo for four years, Wade has acquired skills she did not have before.

“StuCo has given me the knowledge and resources to be a better leader,” Wade stated. “What I will take from StuCo is being a leader who works with others well and listens to someone’s opinions/ideas in a positive way.”

Wade’s leadership qualities learned in StuCo also follow her in other aspects of her life including her love of sports.

“Through sports I have failed and have faced many obstacles that I have had to overcome, which is the reason why I am the athlete and person I am today.”

Senior Kendall Kizarr has known Wade for as long as she could remember, and she has played sports with her for just as long.

“I have known her since the fourth grade so her character development has improved every single year,” Kizarr said. “She is a leader, and if she is leading I want to follow.”

Not only is Wade a leader but also a positive character according to senior Erin Doughty.

“Even in the face of difficulty she always has a positive attitude. She is always pushing me to be the best version of myself,” Doughty said. “She is always so caring, so I know I can count on her.”

Wade plans to take her uplifting aura to college, and continue her athletic career in basketball while majoring in education or criminal justice.
