Outlaws defend their undefeated season
Defeating the Purcell Dragons in the first round of the Class 2A Football Playoffs, the Marlow Outlaws continued their winning streak after a thrilling game on Friday, Nov. 12.
The Outlaws, having been named District Champions for their second consecutive undefeated district season, were prepared for a brawl against the Panthers who have shown resilience throughout the 2021 season.
Senior running back Julian Marroquin brought the Outlaws their first touchdown of the game, celebrating with his teammates afterwards as the Pride of Outlaw Country serenaded the stadium with the “Fight Song.”
Marroquin suffered a partially collapsed lung and a fractured rib earlier in the season, but his injury did not dampen his determination upon his return to the sport as he went on to score another touchdown for the Outlaws, bringing the score at the end of the first quarter to 28-0.
“It feels awesome to be back with my teammates playing with them; there’s nothing else like it,” expressed Marroquin. “I bring some added leadership with the other seniors and a spark of energy to our already energetic team.”
The energy was kept high in the second quarter, with seniors Cole Hayes and William Bergner and junior Brian Zhang bringing the score to 56-0 and creating a large margin between the competitors with the arrival of halftime.
After halftime’s recognition of the Marlow High School cross country teams’ state performances, the game commenced with the junior varsity taking the field.
The last touchdown of the night was made by sophomore Cade Gilbert at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
With the final score of 63-20 bringing the Outlaws their eleventh victory of the season, the boys will continue to push one another to achieve their goal of winning the Class 2A Football State Championships.
The team’s second round of playoffs will take place on Friday, Nov. 19 at the Outlaw Stadium at 7:00 P.M. against the Chandler Lions.
