Holley “STEM”-ulates his brain
Senior Landon Holley is the solo member of the Marlow High School Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics club (STEM club) and has used the club to push himself in his STEM endeavors.
In the club, Holley utilizes his skills in math and science by tutoring elementary and middle school students at the Garland Smith Public Library on Mondays from 3:45 to 4:35 P.M.
Algebra 1, Precalculus and Trigonometry teacher Tamara Fikes is currently in charge of the high school STEM club.
In years past, the STEM club has attended an event where the club members would showcase their creations, such as CO2 cars and rockets.
“My favorite part of STEM club is building things,” Holley expressed.
Holley became interested in the club during his sophomore year after his trip to the Red River Tech Center.
“I joined the STEM club because when I went to the Red River Technology Center I became interested in the pre-engineering program there, and I thought that joining the STEM club would help me prepare for the course,” Holley stated.
He now attends the Tech Center during the second half of the school days.
Alongside working hard for the STEM club, Holley enjoys spending time with his friends.
“Landon has impacted my life in a multitude of ways,” senior Maddox Foster, who has known Holley since elementary school, said. “He has always been there to support me in what I do.”
Holley will put the skills he has learned from the STEM club to good use in the future and will continue inspiring others.
After high school, Holley plans to attend Cameron for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma to complete his degree in Computer Hardware Engineering.
