Bergner receives an exceptional senior year

Senior William Bergner has been playing football since fifth grade and has grown as an individual throughout his participation.

Bergner expressed why he started to play football.

“I wanted to start playing football because I had grown up watching my brothers play,” Bergner commented. “Also in elementary school we had football buddies, and I just thought they were really cool and wanted to be one when I grew up.”

Bergner started playing for the Marlow Outlaws in the seventh grade, determined to grow in his football career.

Bergner now plays receiver for offense and safety for defense, representing the team as number twelve.

Bergner’s growth has led him to superb accomplishments in his career, and he voiced what he believes to be his biggest accomplishments in football.

“Going undefeated last season and making it all the way to the 2A football quarter-finals would have to be my biggest accomplishments,” Bergner expressed.

Fellow teammate and junior Avery Payne has known Bergner since Payne was in the seventh grade and got to witness Bergner’s accomplishments first-hand.

“Will brings great leadership and athletic skills to the team.” Payne declared, “He is always willing to help and be there for anyone when they need it.”

Another one of Bergner’s teammates and fellow senior Jace Gilbert conveyed what his friendship with Bergner means to him.

“Since we have met, my friendship with Will has grown and continues to mean a lot to me.” Gilbert revealed, “Will is always someone I can count on, and if I was ever in trouble, he would be the first person I would call.”

Playing football has taught Bergner valuable lessons he will continue to use after high school.

“I have learned that you always have to work as a team and that if you do your part, you will succeed.” Bergner voiced, “I have also learned a lot about dedication. Football is a long season, and it takes a lot to stay dedicated and work your hardest every day.”

Bergner will use what he has learned from playing football to further his education and receive a degree from a college of his choice after graduation.
