Outlaws make it to Regionals
On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Lady Outlaw softball team traveled to Tecumseh to participate in the Softball 4A Regional Tournament.
The girls won the coin toss and competed against Tecumseh High School at 12 p.m.
The team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, making them trail 3-2 going into the seventh.
The Outlaws lost their first game by a score of 4-2, and played the losing team of the second game, Elk City, at 4:00 p.m.
Lady Outlaw Softball Head Coach of twenty-nine years Brian Miller explained challenges the team has faced this season.
“We had several challenges with injuries-more than normal,” Miller said. “A lot of players had several challenges with those injuries all season long, and some kept girls from playing that might have contributed to the team.”
The team started their preparation for the season during the summer and continued leading up to regionals.
The Lady Outlaws worked on fielding and hitting primarily to get to attend the tournament.
The Elkettes won the toss and were the home team.
The Outlaws were trailing 2-0 after the second inning and went back to the top of the batting lineup in the top of the third for Marlow.
Elk City ended up with a 4-0 win over the Lady Outlaws, ending the Outlaws’s 2021 season.
Member of the team for four years, senior Dara Hunt elaborated on some changes she saw in the team during the season.
“We haven’t always hit very well, but we have come a long way since the beginning of the season,” Hunt explained. “I saw improvement in everyone through working hard, giving one hundred percent effort and cheering on the team.”
With the girls having learned various lessons through the 2021 season, they are prepared to return to the field in 2022 as stronger and more determined players.
