College recruitment changes across Oklahoma

With college right around the corner for the class of 2021, college recruiters are full speed in creating opportunities to inform students about furthering their educational opportunities.
Prior to the spread of COVID-19, college recruiters would visit high schools in person and promote their institute, hoping to sway students into applying.
Having the pandemic drive people from school to quarantine at home, many recruiters have resorted to using virtual meetings and virtual campus tours, limiting face-to-face interactions with students.
Despite the changes in the recruitment system, recruiters have remained steadfast in spreading information about their colleges to high school counselors and prospective students.
Marlow High School counselor Amy Herchock has been working diligently to provide the MHS senior class information about changes in the recruiting season.
“This year the colleges in Oklahoma compiled their own committee, and they appointed a chairman to administer surveys to all the high school counselors in Oklahoma,” Herchock said. “I used to travel and go to the different colleges to pick up information about their programs, or they would do one big counselors fair where they would give different information on different colleges. Now they have put together the virtual college fair that the Oklahoma College Recruitment Association is going to be conducting in October.”
To attain information from these colleges, students are asked to register for a virtual fair online through each college provided by the Oklahoma College Recruitment Association.
Seniors who want to meet with the recruiters will be required to sign up at the office.
Recruiters who make in-person visits at Marlow High School will now be required to social distance and wear masks.
While many college recruiters have been making necessary changes to the recruiting system, universities have also been making adjustments to their admissions system as well.
MHS will remain up-to-date as changes are made to the recruiting season throughout the year.
