Going into her fourth year of journalism, senior Brianna Reed has been named OSM Design Editor of the year.

The OSM Design Editor of the year award is a prestigious award that is given to one Oklahoma journalism studet has demonstrated great leadership and design technique for his or her school newspaper.

Reed explained how winning the award will benefit her future career with the MHS exPRESS.

“After receiving the award, I gained the confidence I needed to be an editor in journalism,” explained Reed.

Reed’s layout work will continued to be published weekly on the MHS exPRESS page found in The Marlow Review.

Using her abilities gained from six years of experience in band, junior Landry O’Neal received second chair flute at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute in the Quartz Mountain Orchestra.

She explained it as a month-long audition process using the previous year’s All-State band audition music.

Thinking of the audition and rehearsal process, O’Neal spoke about what she found interesting about the event.

“My favorite part was doing the online studio classes and orchestra rehearsals,” described O’Neal. “There was a lot more stuff you could learn that was different than what you could learn at Marlow.”

Having previously competed, senior Aubrey Topping competed in The American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division’s Law Day Art Contest her junior year with a “Votes for Women” art piece, awarding her second place.

Being self taught in art from a young age, Topping started competing in The Law Day Art Contest in her sophomore year.

In Topping’s first year, she entered her first piece: “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society;” she received first place.

When asked about what motivates her, Topping described her educational goals.

“I like the recognition; it helps get my name out there,” Topping said. “I hope that with more recognition I may have more scholarship opportunities.”
