Weightlifting is an elective at Marlow High School that many students have chosen to participate in, including junior Cody Huber.

Huber’s weightlifting journey started during his sixth grade year while he was still living in Montana.

Huber knew he had goals for himself and knew that he wanted to be stronger.

His family helped motivate him and push him to get where he is today with his weightlifting goals.

Huber did not have help from a personal trainer, but rather credited himself for the development of his weightlifting skills through his personal research.

“I go on YouTube and look up videos,” stated Huber.

Watching YouTube videos shows Huber different techniques and workouts to use when he is in the gym.

Huber has accomplished many weightlifting feats such as placing 2nd at weightlifting state in eighth grade as well as continuing to reach his personal bests in numerous weightlifting categories.

On the bench, Huber’s personal best is 375 pounds.

Huber’s squatting personal best at the moment is 505 lbs.

Last but certainly not least, Huber’s personal best for deadlifts is 625 pounds.

After sharing his personal bests, Huber shared his insight and tips about reaching weightlifting goals.

“It does not matter how much weight you lift at first. As long as you stay with it, that you’re getting stronger, that you’re getting better everyday, that you are in the gym,” stated Huber. “Just make sure that you keep up with it because that is a big deal. A lot of people think that they can just lift three times a week and that is good, but it has to be done everyday.”

Striving to outdo himself, Huber has set his goals high and hopes to be able to bench 400 lbs, squat 650 lbs and deadlift 800 lbs.
