Creating a strong name for themselves with each competition, the Marlow High School swim team partook in the Duncan swim meet the evening of Friday, Jan. 10 against schools such as Mustang, MidDel and Chickasha.
Aspiring to drop time and attend the State Championship, the Marlow High School swim team has been working hard in order to improve their athleticism.
While working towards reaching their team goals, individual goals of team members have not only been met, but in some situations surpassed.
With a prideful town supporting the team at each competition, each member expressed satisfaction regarding the meet.
The proudest individual was none other than the team’s very own coach, John Smith.
When asked about the changes he has noticed in the team since the season began, Smith acknowledged the development of his athletes.
“We’ve had constant improvement. Most notable in the Jan. 10 meet is Luke Banks who improved his fifty meter freestyle time by three seconds and one hundred meter freestyle time by nine seconds,” stated Smith. “That is huge.”
Freshman Luke Banks not only improved his times, but he also placed first in the fifty meter freestyle in his heat, delighting his teammates who also received high placings in their divisions.
Banks is new to swimming competitively, but with a history of involvement in various sports, swim has become yet another talent of his.
Bettering himself with each stroke, Banks spoke about the joy he has received from swimming throughout the season.
“I have found this amazing new sport to be challenging and fun,” said Banks. “I love the team and everything about swim so far.”
Although the team is anticipated to be the smallest at the State Championship in February, they are strong candidates in each of their divisions and expected to receive high placings.
Until then, they will continue practicing in order to improve their times and teamwork.
