Starting off the winter holidays, the Marlow High School band hosted their annual Christmas concert at the Marlow New Gym on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Celebrating the spirit of Christmas, the band performed three songs that they have been preparing for since October, which include: “Jungle Dance,” “Tidings of Comfort and Joy,” and “African Bell Carol.”

Junior drum major Olivia Cantwell explained how the songs showcased the multiple aspects of the band’s abilities.

“From the beginning of this year to now, I think that the band has really advanced,” said Cantwell. “We get to play harder music each year as our abilities continue to strengthen.”

Being a third year clarinet section leader, junior Hailey Griggs described the band’s effort to prepare for the Christmas concert.

“We were constantly going over each section, and it took a lot of work,” said Griggs. “But, we managed to produce the sound that everyone associates with the band.”

Fellow band member senior Joshua McMains described how the band’s determination will help them as they break away from Christmas preparations and onto more challenging music.

“Our dedication is extremely important because it allows us to break away from the christmas music,” said McMains. “Our size also allows us to create a bigger sound, which gives us more opportunities.”

After continuous hours of hard work for the Christmas concert, the Marlow High School band will travel for their next performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Orlando, Florida on Mar. 12 to Mar. 17
