FCA unites with faith

On Sunday, Oct. 13, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) continued on their faithful tradition by celebrating its 16th annual Fields of Faith event at the Comanche football field.

In 2002, FCA Area Director Jeff Martin prayed about his frustration regarding temptation and spiritual battles that is among the youth.

2 years later, Martin organized the first Fields of Faith.

With over 6,000 students gathered at multiple football fields across Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, Martin knew Fields of Faith was a success.

Last year, Fields of Faith retained over a quarter of a million attendees across more than 500 fields across America – a record setting number for the event.

Out of the 250,000 students that attended Fields of Faith throughout the year, thousands made first-time commitments to the Christian faith or became committed to reading the Bible.

Marlow FCA leader James Brown explained the underlying meaning of Fields of Faith.

“The purpose of Fields of Faith is to get students who don’t go to church to be introduced to God through athletics and let them hear the word.”

Focusing on the goal, Brown shared his hopes on how the event affects students.

“I hope Fields of Faith helps better students relationship with God, and for some, to be introduced to God,” said Brown.

Junior and fellow FCA member Elaina Kuhlman has previously taken part in Fields of Faith and described her feelings toward the annual event.

“Last year’s fields of faith was really touching and eye opening for a lot of reasons,” said Kuhlman. “I heard testimonies from students that I know. Hearing stories from students that you know just by their reputation really changes your perspective on how you view people.”

Junior FCA member Carson Moore also enjoys the site of many students and adults worshipping.

“My favorite part about worshipping is to stop and listen to the dozens of students and adults praising God around me,” said Moore. “That has always been my best-loved part of any worship.”

Many athletes of all sports are given the chance to attend this annual event that allows them to freely worship with teammates and family alike.

This opportunity gives athletes from different schools a possibility to unite and praise together.
