Behind the scenes of every paper, senior Skylar Schnedorf holds title of editor in chief of the MHS exPRESS.
Third year journalism student, Schnedorf began writing sophomore year when she joined the Marlow High School journalism staff.
Since then, she has gained leadership, knowledge on relationships, responsibility, communication skills and much more.
Adviser Haley Wilson recognized Schnedorf’s growth throughout her involvement in the program.
“She has gained a lot of leadership by stepping outside her comfort zone, meeting new people, networking, and understanding what it means to be a leader,” said Wilson. “She is a very servant leader who uses her leadership roles to focus on helping other people within her school and community.
Schnedorf has received various awards in state newspaper competitions such as Print Mini-Feature All-Division State Champion, Print Opinion Column All-Division State Champion and Print News Story All-Division State Runner Up.
However, Schnedorf believes her biggest accomplishment is creating a pathway for her peers to become their best selves.
“All the opportunities I’ve taken in leadership are my biggest accomplishment,” said Schnedorf. “I love working with my peers and being able to lead and encourage them to always be their best.”
Schnedorf’s talents are not the only thing that she is acknowledged for.
Her peers described her as being a positive individual who naturally welcomes others with open arms.
Senior Malachi Eveland described the impact that Schnedorf is leaving on not only the journalism staff but also the other organizations that she is part of.
“I think the most important skill that Skylar brings to any organization is her outgoing and loving personality,” said Eveland. “She has a very optimistic view of what she’s involved in and is passionate about serving others.”
After high school, Schnedorf plans on attending Oklahoma State University to study under their honors program in pursuit of obtaining her degree in Nonprofit Management.
