With the intentions to get students more involved, several of Marlow High School’s organizations are choosing to hold social gatherings to encourage students to join a fitting activity.
Starting the trend, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) held a pool party on Friday, Aug. 23 and invited students interested in FCCLA to attend.
Chloe Brooks, chapter president for FCCLA, hosted the event and described the purpose behind the social.
“The back-to-school social was a way to encourage MHS students to join FCCLA while giving them the opportunity to build friendships,” said Brooks. “Overall, I believe the event went extremely well and was a great way to kick off this school year.”
Continuing the want for involvement, On Monday, Aug. 26, the Pride of Outlaw Country held their annual Outlaw Cookout for the entirety of Marlow Band, from grades sixth through twelfth.
Previously known as the Ice Cream Social, the Outlaw Cookout gives not only the high school but also eighth grade band students an opportunity to perform in front of the community before the first football game.
Letting new band students know what to expect of the year, band director Billy Daniel described the importance of the event.
“The cookout serves several purposes, one of which is giving the eighth grade and high school bands their first performance of the year,” said Daniel. “It also provides the sixth and seventh graders an idea of what their instrument of choice will sound like.”
Following suit, Marlow’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) have begun the planning of assembling a gathering to encourage new students to join.
In previous years, the organization has gathered at the Life Center to eat ice cream and enjoy team building games, and with a to be determined date, FFA hopes to keep their traditions.
With many other clubs and organizations holding their beginning of the year meetings, Marlow is dedicated to providing an involved school year to students’ lives.
