One talented Marlow senior is writing her way through her last year of high school.

Destiny Nowlin has been a member of the MHS exPRESS for four years and was persuaded to apply by her eighth grade English teacher, Trendy Beam.

“When I joined journalism, I fell in love with my teacher and the art of journalism,” Nowlin said.

Nowlin’s strong determination shone through when she applied for an officer position for Oklahoma Scholastic Media, or OSM, after joining the team. She was elected vice-president her sophomore year and was also elected President during her junior year.

“It was an amazing experience, and it taught me a lot about the world of journalism,” Nowlin said.

Along with her officer positions, Nowlin was given the title of editor this year by her journalism teacher, Haley Wilson. She believes Nowlin was deserving of the position because of the determination and time she has put into the team.

“As editor of the school newspaper, Destiny motivates team members to find newsworthy material,” Wilson said. “She is innovative and always looking to improve the MHS exPRESS.”

Nowlin’s team member, senior Kallie Slate, says she positively influences her peers in more ways than one.

“Destiny stays positive while still pushing us to do better,” Slate said. “She’s very determined and kind.”

Though Nowlin has many achievements for herself, she says the impact she has made on others is what she holds dearest to her heart.

“Seeing the difference I have made in other peoples’ lives is better than any achievement I could ever receive,” Nowlin said.

Nowlin plans to take her determination to Cameron University after graduating, where she will work to obtain her associates degree of applied science to become a respiratory therapist.
