Pinning down a great year, senior Seth Young is preparing for his last wrestling season.
Young has been a part of the wrestling team for five years and is eager to see where his final year takes him.
“I would like to make a run at state this year,” Young said.
However, Young isn’t the only one anticipating the season though. Assistant wrestling coach, Keith Kizarr says that he has high expectations for Young.
“I look for Seth to qualify for the state tournament this year and to possibly place.” Kizarr said.
According to the team, Young has made a positive impact on the atmosphere in practice.
Senior Coltin Killgore says that Young has helped him both in and out of wrestling.
“Seth has brought leadership and a comedic factor to this team,” Killgore said. “He’s taught me to be nicer to others.”
Young has surpassed influencing his teammates and has positively impacted his coaches as well.
“I’m so fortunate to get to coach Seth. It’s been amazing to watch him grow and work through all the challenges that wrestling presents,” Kizarr said. “I know he will do great things in the future.”
Young says that his coaches are a support system for him.
“I think of both Coach Howie and Coach Kizarr as coaches, but also as friends,” Young said. “I feel like they would do anything for me.”
Wrestling season officially started after football season ended, and the first dual tournament that Marlow plans on participating is at the beginning of December.
Young has been preparing for the season through the past few months, however.
“I’ve been keeping my weight more consistent before the season starts,” Young said.
Though Young plans to cease his wrestling career after high school, he plans to pursue industrial safety at an undecided university.
