The Marlow High School
Wrestling team powered
through to victory at the 3A
Dual State tournament that
was held Feb. 9-10 at Enid.
During the quarter finals,
they went up against the Per-
ry Maroons and obliterated
them with a score of 73-0.
In the semi-finals round,
they went against the Paw-
nee Black Bears and ended
up winning with a score of
53-21.
After winning all of their
preliminary matches, they
competed in their final match
against the Blackwell Ma-
roons, where they were vic-
torious with a score of 42-28.
One wrestler who contrib-
uted to the team’s success at the state tournament is Senior
Lawson Knox.
“I think that the key to winning Dual State was the practice
and work each of us put in everyday,” said Knox. “I think ev-
eryone being able to come together and do it for each other was
what created such success.”
Along with Knox, Junior Britney Mackey has also contrib-
uted to the team’s success this season.
“A key factor to us winning dual state was the coaching staff
strategically adjusting the lineup to give us an advantage,”
said Mackey. “My coaches
and teammates have been my
greatest motivators this sea-
son.”
Assistant Wrestling Coach
Keith Kizarr has helped orga-
nize and carry out the practic-
es and team building exercis-
es that impacted the outcome
of the state tournament.
“Outworking our op-
ponents in practice, hav-
ing tough kids, and getting
healthy at the right time is
what led us to our success,”
said Kizarr.
After Dual State, Marlow
Wrestling went on to Region-
als to continue their season.
The Marlow Outlaws end-
ed up in first place with 342
points in all, while Berryhill
got second place with a score
of 190.5 points.
The wrestling season has been a great success for the
Marlow Outlaws, and they will work to finish their success at
the Class 3A State Tournament where wrestlers will compete
for individual titles. The state tournament will be held on Feb.
22-24 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds.
