Members of Future Farmers of America (FFA) at
Marlow High School had a
labor auction that was held
at the Marlow First Baptist Church Life Center on
Thursday, Nov. 9.
The labor auction is an annual fundraiser in which
people pay money for the
FFA members to work for
them over a short period of
time.
In order for the fundraiser
to work well, the organization needs not only the
support from members of
the organization but community members as well.
The agriculture teacher
Quaid Kennan, leader
of the FFA organization,
helped run and organize
the fundraiser.
“It has a positive effect on
the FFA members because
they are able to give back
to the community that has
given them so much,” said
Kennan.“It is a good way
to earn money because
the buyers are getting 8
hours of work from FFA
members.”
This year’s auction raised a
total of $20,000.
One of the many students
who participated in this
event is sophomore Conor
Hutton.
Hutton was pleased that
his labor sold for $200 at
the event.
“I think that the auction
went well. All the money
goes to the agriculture
program, and the community gets involved,” stated
Hutton.
Junior Maci Miller also had
a great time participating
in the auction, and her labor was sold for $375.
“I loved it. It is always good
to interact with my fellow
FFA members as well as
the people who support
us in all our endeavors,”
shared Miller. “I think that
the labor auction is a great
fundraiser.The community
is always ready to help, not
just for FFA but all the extra curricular activities that
the Marlow students are
involved in,” said Miller.
All in all, the labor auction is a great way to raise
money for Marlow FFA
benefits, and the community will always support the
agriculture program.
