Putting their hard work
into practice, The MHS
Academic Team attended
their district tournament on
Monday, Oct. 9.
This meet resulted in a
victory streak of 2-0 for the
Outlaws, Marlow emerg-
ing victorious against both
the Chickasha Chicks and
Anadarko Warriors.
One major contributor to
the academic team is four
year member and senior
Joshua Parsons.
Parsons believes that this
year’s team will continue
its success at future meets.
“We have a very diverse
team with a lot of knowl-
edge over different sub-
jects,” Parsons explained.
“We have more people this
year so the team is stronger
than we have ever been.”
In order to reach the
level they are at, the team
has practiced since early
September, meeting on
Wednesday’s during lunch.
While attending these
practices, junior Mikey
Weston has been able to
see the team’s strengths
firsthand.
“We have people that are
very good with history and
geography, so we did very
well with those kinds of
questions.”
With the diversity of
members and dedication
toward the program, team
members have hope for the
rest of the season.
Two other key compo-
nents of the team’s success
are Seniors Travis Phillips
and Chesnie Stuart, the
team’s co-captains.
Throughout his six years
in the program, Phillips has
consistently improved at
the contest and only plans
to improve more through
his last year.
“My biggest goal is to
help us get further in our
tournaments by study-
ing and researching many
topics before the tourna-
ments,” Phillips said. “I
want to do my best and an-
swer as many questions as
possible.”
Though there is no avail-
able information for the re-
gional tournament yet, the
academic team will contin-
ue to improve as they move
further into the year.
