Outlaw Homecoming 2023: Touchdowns and Crowns
Tackling homecoming in style, the Marlow
Outlaw football team slammed the competition.
MHS football had their Homecoming game
Oct. 6, filling the week with a variety of celebrations and ways for students to get involved.
HOCO started with the week’s dress up days
of Wake Up and Fight (Pajama day), Tie Up
Cancer (Tie-dye day), On Wednesdays We Wear
Pink (Pinkout), Tackle Cancer (Jersey day), and
Welcome to Outlaw Land (Barbie and Ken day).
Not only did students get to show their school
spirit by dressing up, a door decorating contest
was held.
The contest required that the doors relate to
the homecoming theme of Barbie and Ken style
and be completed by Wednesday at noon with
the top three winners earning prizes.
Yearbook advisor Beverly Cramton’s door won
third place, special education teacher Kim Davis’s
door won second place, and physical science and chemistry
teacher Sherri Curry’s door won first place.
Allowing all age groups to get into the homecoming spirit,
the Marlow Outlaw Bootleggers held a clinic practicing with
elementary students after school during the week in preparation for their halftime show at the homecoming game.
After the girls performed, the Bootleggers did their halftime
performance.
Another important and looked forward to part of homecoming is the royalty, with seniors involved with the season partaking in it.
The homecoming queen candidates were Kristin Travis escorted by Jace Hunt, Alisha Lemons escorted by King Harrison, Demi Hunt escorted by Barron Gage, Amy Blevins escorted by Payton Edie and Kenlee Wilson escorted by Cody
Weber.
The Crowning Capitan for the court was Cade Gilbert, who
was escorted by Bristin Smith and Myleah Bearce.
With all of the celebrations surrounding and occurring at
Homecoming, the week was filled with students getting excited for the big game.
Senior Ryli Murray, a member of MHS Blue Crew, enjoys
the energy of the games..
“I always try to spread school spirit in
the student section by getting everyone
involved and excited for the game,” said
Murray.
The voices of the Blue Crew do not go
unnoticed as Gilbert believes that the energy from the crowd is something that makes
a major difference in the success of the
team.
“School spirit definitely has an effect on
how I play. It’s a lot easier to get excited
when the student section is into the game
too,” declared Gilbert.
The Marlow High School football team
are still undefeated, ending the game with
a win of 40-0 against the Dickson Comets.
The Outlaws head football coach Matt
Weber was satisfied with how the team
played.
“The Team did great,” stated Weber,
“There are always things to improve, but correcting mistakes
after a 40 point win is great.”
According to Coach Weber, school spirit impacts the games
more than people often realize.
“Marlow always has a great crowd no matter if we are home
or on the road”, said Weber, “The team loves to be appreciated
and feel the energy of the crowd. It sets us apart from many
other communities.”
The Outlaws next game will occur on Thursday, Oct.12
against the Douglass Trojans at the Douglas stadium.
