MHS vocal harmonizes
Fredrich Nietzsche, a fa-
mous German philosopher
once said, “without music,
life would be a mistake.”
Fortunately, Marlow has a
strong high school vocal pro-
gram that brings a little more
life into the community.
Every year, Marlow High
School vocal students can be
found practicing for several
events and competitions.
Recently, 11 Marlow vo-
calists performed at the South-
west Oklahoma (SWOK) All-
Region Honor Choir on Oct.
3, 2023.
The event was held at the
First Baptist church in Law-
ton, Oklahoma.
The students were chosen
to participate in the event af-
ter qualifying in the Septem-
ber auditions.
Senior Ollie McInvale
led the way by winning the
coveted Jimmy Zinn Memo-
rial scholarship, which is the
second year in a row that a
Marlow vocalist has been se-
lected to win this honor.
“My favorite part of vocal
music is working with people
to sing a beautiful piece of
music. I love the feeling we
all have after an amazing per-
formance,” expressed McIn-
vale.
Another student that has
also enjoyed being in vocal
because of the challenges
and lessons it brings is junior
Katelyn Cullum.
“My favorite part about
vocal is getting to be expres-
sive through music and hav-
ing the opportunity to sing
with the best in the Southwest
region,” exclaimed Cullumm.
“Just like in life, music has its
ups and downs, whether it is
the song itself or just how re-
hearsal days go.”
Another influential part in
the vocal program is director
Sarah Pitts helping her stu-
dents reach new heights as
individuals and vocalists.
“My goal for this year is
the same as every year. I want
my students to learn more
about music than they did
last year, sing their best, work
their hardest, and become
better musicians,” declared
Pitts. “All-Region is a great
way to get kids an audition
experience because the music
is harder than normal Junior
High or High School level
pieces.”
MHS Vocal will continue
their hard work in furthering
their abilities at All-State on
Oct. 28th taking place at the
Eisenhower Middle School in
Lawton,Oklahoma.
