Children’s Theater “acting” in students lives

Riker Nunn was pretty sure that he knew all his lines for the Children’s Theatre as he got out of bed and got dressed for the day.

He had just made a treacherous journey through the menacing rain to the Marlow High School where he attends as a freshmen.

Nunn had previously already auditioned for the play, where he earned the part of a troll in one of the short stories featured:  “Billy Goats Gruff.”

“The play was awesome for me because I had finally been able to do what I wanted for so long and that was to act with my friends,” declared Nunn. “At first I just wanted to try Drama, but now, I love the activity because of all the opportunities it has given to me.”

As Nunn recited his catchy lines his director and teacher Paula McConnell gathered the other Drama 1 students in preparations for their annual Children’s Theatre, which occurred on Wednesday, April 26.

The Children’s Theatre takes place annually, giving the students the chance to grow in their talents and love for drama.

This year, the play consisted of all the very talented Drama 1 students where they performed Barnyard Tales.

“I picked this theme for this year because I felt that the elementary students would really enjoy all the various characters from the play,” expressed Mcconnell. “I love directing the Children’s Theatre because I am able to see all of my students entertain younger children and grow in themselves.”

Another student that has grown in her abilities throughout the course of this year is freshman Chelsea Milligan.

Milligan played the role of a kitten from “Three Kittens Who Lost Their Mittens.”

“Drama is super fun because it allows you to grow in some skills that you might not have ever learned,” exclaimed Milligan. “I used to have trouble speaking in front of others, but now I have conquered that fear because of drama.”

The Children’s Theatre continues to be an annual event that offers students the opportunities to experience theater whether they are performing or filling the sets in the audience.
