Senior Cole Pettit has been a member of Marlow High School’s baseball team for three years, beginning the sport itself 14 years ago.
Since moving to Marlow, Pettit has grown as a player, learning life lessons as well as better techniques to play.
“My favorite part of baseball is just the people and hanging out with friends,” Pettit expressed. “During my high school career I would say I have seen the most improvement in how hard I can throw. I just kept working to get better and now I am starting.”
Pettit’s playing has gone through a variety of changes through his time on the team, these changes being noticed by the team’s coaches.
World History teacher and coach for the baseball team John Morgan has coached Pettit for three years, having coached him for all of Pettit’s time in Marlow.
“He is a really good kid. He is conscientious of what he does, and he goes to work, Morgan said. “He works really hard. He is not a vocal leader, but he leads by example.”
Pettit has been able to improve thanks to his hardworking personality which has been noticed by his teammates and classmates.
Senior Cooper Smith has been privy to these changes, playing as a fellow pitcher for the team and a three year friend.
“Cole is a great person and someone I can count on,” Smith said. “He pitches his game no matter who we are playing, and he does not let a tough situation affect him. He is my friend, teammate and supporter”
Pettit’s leadership impacted both his friends on the team and helped to lead his teammates.
“He has come in and really developed,” Morgan stated. “He does his job, and he is a leader in the groups that we are in.”
After graduation, Pettit plans to attend Harding University and major in biology where he will focus on academics.
After receiving his biology degree, Pettit will move on to attend dental school.
