The Marlow High School Band had their annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, Dec. 6 while Marlow Vocal Music had their concert on Thursday, Dec. 8 providing Christmas happiness.
The high school band students performed three songs at the concert which were “A Joyous Christmas,” arranged by Randall D. Strandridge; “Jingle Bells and Jungle Drums,” arranged by Mark Williams; and “Dance of the Slippery Slide Trombones,’’ arranged by David Shaffer.
One of the high school students that participated in the concert was sophomore Kaleb Miller.
Miller is a percussionist in the Marlow High School Band playing many different instruments throughout the concert.
“Christmas is a very special time for me because I get to spend time with family and friends,” expressed Miller. “A Joyous Christmas is my favorite song that we played because it is full of thriving excitement and has a bright calming mood.”
Adding on to Miller’s statement Rebecca Corser, one of the band directors, gave her thoughts on the performance.
“The Christmas concert was very successful because the students learned new things and became better as musicians,” stated Corser. “I felt that we, as a band, showed the Marlow Community that we are hard workers and will continue working hard to achieve many goals throughout this year.”
Not only did the Marlow High School Band spread Christmas cheer but so did the Marlow High School Vocal, performing their concert on Thursday, Dec. 8.
The students performed three songs as well which were “O Magnum Mysterium,” arranged by Evan Ramos; “This Christmas,” arranged by Roger Emerson; “African Noel,” arranged by Victor C. Johnson; and “A Muppet Christmas Carol Medley,” arranged by Ryan O’Connell.
One of the vocal students that has grown through the program is sophomore Katelyn Cullum.
“I feel that these songs are great and everybody has been working very hard for the concert,” stated Cullum. “The choir concert is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and to get the chance to work with others.”
The Vocal director Sarah Pitts helps her students grow as a singer and learn new techniques along the way.
“When I am picking music, I always try to find songs that are accessible to the choirs but still are challenging to help my students become better,” stated Pitts. “I also want the songs to be fun for the students to sing and to help them learn new things.”
Both Marlow Programs have shared their abilities with the Marlow Community bringing Christmas cheer for everyone every year and will continue to do so.
