Marlow FFA members have been practicing and competing in shooting sports since the start of the 2022-23 school year.
Their successful season came to an end at the state sporting clays on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022 with the senior team placing 5th and the junior team placing 8th in the state.
Marlow High School FFA advisor Quaid Kennan took two teams to the state sporting clays shooting event.
“All of the boys on the shooting team are very good kids,” stated Kennan. “The team has placed extremely high, if not won, every shoot we have attended this year, but we came up just short at state.”
It takes a lot of time and work to get to the performance level to qualify for state, and the Marlow FFA shooting team has put forth that effort.
Not only has the shooting team improved by competing, but they have also spent each Monday afternoon practicing at the Duncan Gun Club range at Duncan Lake.
The many hours of practice was demonstrated at the state sporting clays event by both the junior and senior team.
The senior team consisted of seniors Korben Baker and Noah Vanston with juniors Hunter Miller and Drew Wollenberg.
Miller has always had an interest in using his shooting skills for hunting, but in recent years has started shooting competitively
“I have been competing in sporting clays for three years,” said Miller.
The senior team ended up placing fifth at the state level.
The MHS junior team also competed and consisted of sophomores Kadan Heaton and Ethan Vanston, and also freshmen Jack Glover and Brody Morris.
The junior team was the eighth place team at the sporting clays state.
“These boys know how to work extremely hard to get what they want and have practiced hard to get to where they are today,” expressed Kennan. “I am very proud of them.”
This successful season has built up the Marlow FFA shooting team’s skill and experience and should help them in coming years.
