On Saturday, November 5 Marlow Outlaw Speech Team (MOST) traveled to Okarche to participate in the Speech Tournament.
The Okarche Speech Tournament was the first competition that the students competed in for the 2022-23 school year.
The students started working on their pieces after their annual performance “The Pony Expresso” and had five weeks in total to prepare for the speech tournament.
Students were able to perform different speaking and acting events that involved many different forms of drama, such as a humorous or dramatic duet, a humorous or dramatic interpretation, monologue, prose, poetry, standard or original oratory, domestic extemp and foreign extemp.
There were twenty students who went to the tournament with the help of their teacher Paula McConnell.
“I love starting the competition season with the Okarche Tournament because it is organized, and a great place to start,” stated McConnell. “The students have put in a lot of work and did very well.”
One student that has continued to grow in his abilities and performed well was Sophomore Micheal Weston.
Weston performed in the category prose at the competition placing second at Okarche.
“I had two weeks in class to prepare for the event and feel that I did very well because of it,” stated Weston. “I enjoy the piece that I performed at the competition and feel that I will continue to do good.”
Another student that has worked hard in drama and benefited from it very much is Senior Mckenna Travis.
Travis performed in the category poetry at the drama contest placing second at the contest.
The Okarche Speech was challenging but will help the students get better and prepare them for their futures.
MOST did very well at the event and will use this competition as a starting point to continue achieving their goals.
