On Saturday, Oct. 29 the Marlow High School varsity cross country teams traveled to Edmond Sante Fe High School to participate in the 4A Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) State meet.
Last year at State, the boys were announced as back-to-back 3A Champions while the girls placed 3rd at the 3A State meet.
While the teams did not place as high as they did last year, they still did very well considering they moved up a class level this season.
The boys team placed 13th at the competition and the girls team placed 18th place.
Determined to continue doing their best the Marlow High School boys Varsity and High School girls varsity practiced very hard.
The Marlow team’s coaches have worked all year to prepare the runners for state and the competition that comes with it.
The head coach for both of the cross country teams is Mickey Eaves.
Eaves explains his thoughts on how the teams have performed.
“The kids have put in the hard work and performed very well with their hard work ethic for the State,” stated Eaves. “Hopefully all the kids learned something about hard work, teamwork and dedication to a sport.”
Another coach that helps to push and encourage the boys team for cross country is Dr. Mathew Ivory.
Ivory expresses his opinions on the team’s greatest strengths.
“The team has great senior leadership and chemistry that leads to unselfish work both in practice and at meets,” stated Ivory. “Every member, whether varsity or junior varsity, are vital to that environment.”
One of the main runners for the boys cross country team showing leadership was Senior Jordan Tyler.
“We practiced the same as we have all year, but last week did more challenging workouts to prepare for state,” expressed Tyler.
One runner for the girls team that helped the team place well was Senior Kyah Blundell.
“I think we have done really well this season and have gotten better,” stated Blundell. “I decided to try out cross country and really liked it.”
The Marlow varsity boys and girls team ran with Outlaw pride against the other twenty teams at the meet.
Both teams have put in the work and have gotten better over the course of the year, and the runners will continue to prepare for next year.
