On Tuesday Oct. 18 the Marlow High School band participated in a marching contest that was held at Cameron University.

The competition was held by Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) where different bands marched on the Cameron football field.

Twenty-two high schools participated in the competition, not just to do well but to also to receive constructive feedback from the judges.

The Marlow band students worked extremely hard to prepare for the contest by learning how to play the songs and marching correctly.

One student that put in the work for the event was Junior Maggie Wheeler.

“I believe the marching contest will help to better the band program and show the expectations for the future program,” stated Wheeler

While the band went to the contents for critiques they came out of the competition with words of encouragement from the judges comments.

The Marlow band did extremely well, in a great part due to the band teachers, Mathew Pitts and Rebecca Corser, who were able to lead the students to success.

“The Marlow band has not been to a marching competition in a long time,” stated Pitts. “We went to get experience and to better our program.”

Not only did Pitts feel the marching contest benefited the band but Corser did as well.

“I feel that the marching contest has helped us because we got the chance to see where other bands are at,” stated Corser. “Now we,as a band,  will know where we can be in the future.”

The band was prepared for the contest and did a tremendous job at the competition.

They will use what they learned from the event to better themselves and continue to grow as an organization.

The Marlow High School Band will continue to show outlaw pride at the Friday football games.
