Wrestling through senior year

Wrestling has been a part of senior Gehrig Furr’s life ever since he was four years old.

It first started after his dad encouraged him to start wrestling, and ever since then, wrestling has been in his everyday life.

With Furr being a member of the Marlow High School wrestling team there have been many wins on his part.

For example, Furr won three straight victories during their State Dual Wrestling Championship match; which they won back-to-back.

After participating in the sport of wrestling for fifteen years Furr has gained an abundance of knowledge and love for the sport.

“My favorite thing about wrestling is going to tournaments and hanging out with my teammates,” Furr expressed. “My coaches have inspired me the most and have taught me about more than just wrestling.”

Although wrestling is a majority of Furr’s life, he still made time to connect with students at school.

Fellow senior Avrey Payne has been friends with Furr since their years in middle school.

“I have known Gehrig since I moved here in the seventh grade,” Payne stated. “He used to be shy, but he kind of came out of his shell over the years. He is really chill all the time, and it does not seem like anything really bothers him.”

Another senior, Jacob Windsor, has been friends with Furr since elementary school.

“Gehrig is just a great friend, he is always happy and wanting to go do something,” Windsor stated.

Furr plans to take his calm attitude to college and eventually receive a doctorate in sports medicine.
