Marlow High StuCo hosts a ghostly haunted house
The Marlow High School Student Council (StuCo) held its annual haunted house on Saturday, Oct. 30 to raise a scare for students and members of the community while also raising funds to enable StuCo members to attend the state convention.
The event was hosted at the MHS dome gym from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and all students and parents were welcome to attend for $8 per person.
The theme for this year’s event, “Criminals,” featured different sub themes ranging from children’s toys to clowns.
As the evening began, the lights dimmed and the seven different rooms began their jobs of scaring the willing guests.
Given the time and effort required to prepare for this theme, StuCo President Abbey Witt highlighted how Marlow’s haunted house was able to pull off their spooky event.
“The students have their own shared rooms,” Witt described. “It was divided up to be affordable, and it really helped that StuCo has amassed decorations and costumes over the years that students wanted to donate.”
StuCo uses the haunted house profits to help fund the council’s fees and dues, as described by Student Council Advisor Ann Field.
“We host the haunted house for a number of reasons,” Field said. “One of them is our main fundraiser for the student council. We use this money to send our members to leadership workshops and conventions as well as do good things around our school and community. Another reason that we have it is to give our students and community members something fun to do. Lastly, it makes for some really great memories for our student council as they plan their rooms and scare people all night,” explained Field.
With a successful turnout of 350 people, the annual haunted house raised $2,800 to be put forth towards the council’s state convention.
